This room temperature STM system is equipped with the standard praparation and analysis devices, such as molecular beam epitaxy (MBE), electron diffraction (LEED) and Auger electron spectroscopy (AES). In addition, the system has a UHV transport measurement device (including a small electro magnet) that is compatible with the STM sample carriers. Thus allowing a direct comparison of locally resolved scanning tunneling spectroscopy and the global electrical properties of a sample.

The system was expanded to include a chamber for sample preparation in a hydrogen atmosphere. This allows the hydrogenation of surfaces at temperatures of up to 1800K and pressures of up to 800mbar.
